Funny, I actually miss the sweat dripping from my face. I miss being out of breath, pushing myself to the point of exhaustion.
I never thought that I would miss it. Three little letters: GYM. I miss the gym.
Over the past few months, work has really ramped up. As a result, I haven't been able to leave the office on time to make it to the gym. I have traveled a long road to get this workout consistency in my life.
I finally came up with a gym location and a time that blends well with my life. For years, I tried to force myself to be a morning workout person. There is just too much to do during the mornings. I battled with the reports saying that you get the best results if you work out in the mornings. So, I would set the alarm clock for 4:30 am, dreading hearing that screeching alarm clock sound. I soon began to resent this and that routine quickly came to an end.
Since I couldn't make myself become a morning workout person, I didn't do anything. I sat, I ate, I gained. All because of my thinking. I am guilty of reading too many reports, asking for way too many opinions.
December of 2010. A fluke snow/ice storm hit Atlanta. The words Atlanta and snow don't mix very well. Needless to say, we were "iced" in for an entire week. During this time, I jumped on the stationary bike that had become a spot for me to display some of my clothes. In the beginning, I could barely do 5 minutes! I spent that entire week building my endurance. I finally started using the dumbbells that were previously used as door stops. That week was spent building my endurance. This was good but how was I going to maintain this once the ice melted?
A little more research (see, I read way too many reports), I finally found advocates of evening workouts. So, after the kids were in bed, I would hop back on that stationary bike. Interesting enough, I started to have really good sleep. I've always had good sleep but I would now wake up with more energy. Can you say "well rested"?
That endurance eventually led me to joining a gym. The gym. The place I haven't been to in a week. The goal is to make it on Wednesday. Until then, I got few coals in the fire: gonna jump some rope, do a few reps of weights, throw in some push ups. Something is better than nothing. I also checked out Rx Fitness Lady's blog about being healthy and prosperous. It's always good to find helpful, useful information. She's even got mini blog challenge going on next week. Not only is she promoting fitness/health but she's also branching out to interact with other blogs. How about that, learning from each other?
This ReShape Monday, I invite you guys to join me as I take part in Rx Fitness Lady's mini blog challenge party. The challenge starts next week, so we've got a week to gather our thoughts. Let's do something different by meeting new bloggers and possibly learning something new. Who knows, I might find some new time management skills that will help me get back to the gym!
I listened to the reports that said mornings are best too. I work out in the evenings most the time now, or in spurts throughout the day. I figure it has to be better than nothing!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Sarah! Some type of movement will burn some calories. I allowed those reports to get into my head and tried to conform myself to what they were saying. Working out in the evenings really relaxes me.

You are so very welcome Amanda!
DeleteTiffany, I'm in Macon! We are right here together girl! I work overnight so I'm a morning person but not really. I teach at 9:30 and 8:30 but to mostly SAHM's and people with schedules like mine. If I have to give up my schedule, I'm not sure which way I'd go early mornings or evenings. I hope you get back soon. My gym time is a must but right now it's just me. I know it's difficult to arrange around family.
ReplyDeleteThanks for shouting out the challenge and I appreciate your participation.
Oh wow, you are indeed right down the road! I made it!! Finally got back into the gym today and it was great. Pushed myself hard and feeling great. Ready for the challenge next week!
DeleteMornings are so much easier than late night workouts.. I a new follower from southern charm! I would love for you to check out my blog and follow me back! Nicole
ReplyDeleteYeah mornings are easier for some. Morning workouts would allow you to go ahead and get it out of the way. It depends on many different factors to determine what works right for each individual. My workout class is as at 5 pm, which gives me enough time to leave work to get there on time. Once I'm done, my daughter's karate class is over. Her class is practically next door to the gym. Plus I get deep sleep at bedtime, works for me. As long as we're all moving, I'm good!
DeleteI'd love evening workouts if hubby wasn't home. It's too hard to do them when he's meandering about though, so I do mine in the morning. :)
ReplyDeleteGood point, mail4rosey, I would probably find it hard to do if my husband were at home during the evenings. He works a 2nd shift, so it works pretty well. It's good that you're gettin' it in though.
DeleteI found your blog on Linkin With My Ladies and started following on google friend connect. Love the name of your blog! Is it a Scandal reference? I totally know what you mean about missing the gym. When I can't work out these days it drives me crazy!
ReplyDeleteAshley @ http://downsizingashley.blogspot.com/
Hey Ashley, thanks for stopping by! I absolutely love the show Scandal. It's funny, I was at the gym one day and my trainer made a comment that is usually said on the show. How he's training us to be gladiators, gladiators in skirts. Then I thought about how I really do feel like a gladiator at times, from working full time to being a wife and mother. And yeah, there are those days when I am doing all of that in heels, sometimes in flats and sneakers too. I checked out your blog and congrats on your weight loss success. I will definitely check back in for some tips and pointers.
